Over by Christmas?
Art Exhibition at Holy Trinity Church Skipton from the 13th to the 20th December.
This Art exhibition, by three Craven College Fine Art Degree students is an exploration of the impact of the Great War on the lives of people in the Craven area.
Our research began with the names on the War Memorial. This led us to the book and website ‘Craven’s Part in the Great War’ which gave us some insight into the lives of servicemen and their families before the war and an appreciation of the effects of their subsequent loss. We were also inspired by the poetry of the WW1 poets and the powerful photographs taken on the Western Front.
The three of us have followed different routes within the theme of the Centenary. These include; an exploration of war memorials, daily life in the trenches and the emergence of the poppy as a symbol of remembrance. Our ideas are expressed in the form of drawing, painting, collage and 3D work.
We are very grateful to the Revd Veronica and the members of Holy Trinity Church for hosting this exhibition and for giving us their support and encouragement.
