The Heritage Fund can consider applications from places of worship for a wide range of projects, including capital works. In 2023 the Heritage Fund launched a 10-year strategy Heritage 2033. This sets out the four investment principles which all applications are scored against. Any application to the Heritage Fund should be framed around these principles and your project should be presented with a clear heritage focus. Your church does not need to be listed to apply to this fund and heritage can include built heritage, oral history, natural heritage and much more.

A project enquiry stage is available, to allow applicants to access early advice on their application. We strongly encourage parishes to make use of this process.
Places of worship are also a focus for the Heritage Fund under their Heritage in Need Strategic Initiative. This funding stream is not designed for individual churches, but for broader strategic projects.
