Wakefield Cathedral launches its own sweet rock

CATHEDRAL ROCKS!

Wakefield Cathedral has launched its own special sweet rock which went on sale for the first time at the local authority run Seaside in the City event at the weekend.

The pink rock, which spells Wakefield Cathedral all the way through, is available for sale in the Cathedral shop inside the Treacy Hall for £2 a stick but for this weekend was sold out of the back of Pop Up Cathedral which turned up for the two day event which saw the city centre transformed into a beach with sand pit, a small sailing lake, donkey rides - and sunshine!

The Cathedral ran the BBQ, a bottle hooplah, tombola and hook-a-duck stalls for the event as well as serving teas and coffees and refreshments in the Cathedral kitchen.

The rock will also be available at the Cathedral’s latest exciting initiative, its Discovery Arcade which will be launched for October half term and will offer a wide range of activities for children and young people that tells the stories and the heritage of this Grade 1 Listed building.

The Very Revd Jonathan Greener, the Dean of Wakefield said: “We wanted to make something of Seaside in the City here in Wakefield, and rock seemed the obvious answer.  It also fits well with our Discovery Arcade, to be launched this autumn.

“Cathedral rock is just another way of us engaging with the life of our city, and inviting people in to explore the building.  And it’s fun and tasty,” he added.
