The Diocese of Leeds are launching an exciting new phase of the Barnabas Lay Leadership Development Programme, and we are seeking a Hub Leader (Fixed term for 3 years) to help equip and empower lay leaders, particularly in underserved communities, areas of deprivation, and among global majority heritage groups.
This is a unique opportunity to help shape and deliver a programme that nurtures confident, mission‑focused lay leadership across our parishes.
There are three half‑time posts available (fixed term for 3 years): one in Halifax, one in Huddersfield, and one in Bradford. Please confirm in your application which of these locations you are applying for, or if you wish to be considered for more than one.
About the Role
The Hub Leader will create and lead a local hub of the Lay Leadership Development Programme within a specific area of the Diocese. Working closely with clergy, laity, volunteers, and the Barnabas Programme team, you will identify and recruit participants, deliver training, and ensure each individual receives the mentoring and support they need to grow in their missional leadership.
You will play a key role in helping participants develop practical skills, deepen their discipleship, and take forward sustainable missional initiatives in their parish contexts.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and grow local hubs by identifying potential lay leaders for programme cohorts.
- Design and adapt the training scheme to local contexts, drawing on Mustard Seed (Diocese of York) learning and support.
- Deliver a year‑long programme of training, teaching, and development.
- Work with clergy to support the development of lay leaders and encourage participation in the hubs.
- Maintain strong communication between the hub, deanery, and Diocese, including sharing stories and learning.
- Oversee mentoring arrangements and support participants in forming ongoing mentoring relationships.
- Recruit and support volunteer assistant hub leaders.
- Help participants identify and act on missional opportunities within their parishes, including supporting missional events.
- Contribute to the development of new hub locations.
- Work with the Barnabas team to develop sustainable mission and leadership pathways within parishes.
- Capture learning, track outcomes, and report to the Barnabas Programme Board.
