The 10th Anniversary of the Diocese of Leeds

The 10th anniversary of the Diocese of Leeds takes place on Saturday, April 20, 2024 and is an opportunity for us all to both reflect and look forward to coming decades.

The Diocese was created in 2014, and the Rt Revd Nick Baines became its first Bishop in June of that year. We have three cathedrals of equal status: Ripon, Wakefield, and Bradford, and there are five episcopal areas within the diocese, each led by an area bishop: Leeds, Ripon, Wakefield, Bradford and Huddersfield.

The Diocese of Leeds comprises all the ecclesial traditions of the Church of England. It also reaches across urban, suburban and rural communities, where the challenge for the future is how the Gospel is to be faithfully and creatively proclaimed and lived in a changing world.

We are a vibrant diocese, equipping confident clergy to enable confident Christians to live and tell the Good News in our large region.

The Archbishop of York, the Most Revd Stephen Cottrell, will be visiting the diocese for a weekend touring the region and marking this important milestone in the life of our diocese. He will start his visit on Friday April, 19 in the rural setting of Leyburn Auction Mart, then travel all around the diocese, including attending the 10th Anniversary Service at Bradford Cathedral on Saturday, April 20 at 3pm. That service is open to all and will also be livestreamed.

Leeds @ 10 Services

There will be a service at Bradford Cathedral at 3pm on Saturday, April 20, attended by the Archbishop of York and invited guest from across the diocese. The service is open to all, and will also be livestreamed.

There will be a service celebrating ten years of rural ministry in the diocese at Ripon Cathedral at 3.30pm on Sunday, May 12. Bishop Anna and Dean John, with the support of the Bishop of Leeds, are inviting people from all parts of the diocese to share in this celebration of rural communities, parishes, businesses and organisations, not least farming and land management.
