Christians and Muslims in Shipley are inviting their local community to join them for family fun day this Thursday as they celebrate six months of getting to know each other better.
Since Lent and Ramadan earlier this year, clergy and congregation members form the Masjid Ayesha, the Ihya College and St Peter's Shipley have spent time together monthly, listening and talking around a particular subject each month to help them better understand and appreciate one another's similarlties and differences.
"We wanted to celebrate the time we have had getting to know and understand one another better," said the Revd Natasha Thomas, Interim Priest-in-Charge of St Peter's.
"So we are working together to put on a family fun day for our local community to enjoy with us on Thursday, August 27, between 11.30am and 3pm in Shipley Market Place, at the heart of our town.
"Everyone is welcome to come along and join us!"
The project was supported with funding from Bradford Council which has enabled those taking part to work with local artists to jointly create a mosaic, which will be displayed for the first time at the fun day.
"The image shows both our distinct natures and our desires to meet each other as brothers and sisters living in the Shipley community," Revd Natasha said.
"We are hopeful that the mosaic will be displayed in a public space that will encourage others to keep on talking about faith, beliefs and community."
The monthly shared conversations will begin again on Thursday, October 8 at Ihya College, on Otley Road in Shipley, with a discussion about how the faiths can work together to raise funds for a shared sponsored charity, supporting the work of the Bradford Royal Infirmary.
