Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men and women
Follow me and I will make you fishers of men and women – it was these words from Matthew 4:19 that first inspired the Area Bishop of Wakefield, the Rt Revd Tony Robinson to be a priest.
Now he has organised a series of five evening teachings and sent a personal invitation to everyone in the church communities of the Wakefield Episcopal Area to come together and explore their faith and discipleship.
Called Follow Me, all the evenings take place in Wakefield Cathedral and start with optional Evensong at 6.30pm followed by supper at 7.15pm with the teachings from 7.45pm until 9.15pm.
Said Bishop Tony: “ The call to follow Jesus is as relevant today as it was to Peter and the others then and I would like us to explore together how we can deepen our understanding of what it means to be a disciple in 2014.”
The five sessions started with Bishop Gordon Mursell on 'How Do I Read the Bible – a way to use the Bible more effectively in our daily lives'.
The Revd Canon Gordon Dey will lead a session on how to become a better disciple on Nov 27. An evening on how different styles of prayer can enhance our daily routine has been organised for Feb 26 (speaker to be confirmed) and Fr George Guiver from the Community of the Resurrection in Mirfield will lead a workshop on worship on Mar 26. The final session will take place on 21 May with the Revd Canon Alan Billings on how to speak to a contemporary audience
