Children used drama and cardboard boxes to bring to life the power of sharing for their harvest service at Hoylandswaine Messy church, Barnsley when they collected for their local foodbank.
They made Harvest Trucks out of cardboard boxes, a table, drainpipes and a tarpaulin and the congregation loaded their harvest gifts on shelves in the back.
A signpost "Food Bank 7 miles" told everyone where their gifts were going – the Barnsley Churches Drop In and Food Bank - from the Harvest Festival at St John's
The children stacked all the harvest produce in the back of the truck before they gave a short drama presentation as part of the service based on the traditional Stone Soup Story (Trucker version!)
All the produce donated in both parishes of Silkstone and Hoylandswaine and the schools harvest will go to the Barnsley Churches Drop In and Food Bank which is based in the town centre.
Vicar, Revd Maureen Browell said: “We donated last year’s harvest produce to the same project and recognise the importance of supporting local people in need.
“The project has served over 11,000 meals this year and demand continues to increase so we are particularly pleased that the schools have joined us this year and contributed their harvest to the Food Bank too,” she said.
And UZ youth group, Silkstone has adopted the Barnsley Churches Drop In as its Charity of the Year.
