HG1000 posterA Harrogate church’s campaign to raise 1000 needy childen out of poverty and give a 1000 families clean water has received a massive firework night boost after being chosen as one of three charities to be supported by this year’s Harrogate Bonfire Night Firework display  which takes place on the Harrogate Stray (the famous  meadow surrounding the town).

The HG1000 campaign was started by St Mark’s Church in Harrogate and has been chosen by the Round Table as one of the three charities which will benefit from its bucket  collections taken at the town’s fireworks on Saturday November 1st.

“We are absolutely delighted with this support”, says the Revd Guy Donegan-Cross, Vicar of St Mark’s Church and part of HG1000’s organising team. “We are now well over half way to our target for water filters and nearly at 500 children sponsored. This gives us a real sense of momentum.”

HG1000 works with the international child development charity,  ‘Compassion’ and as part of efforts to raise money and awareness in Harrogate, Graham Kendrick the internationally renowned ‘father of modern worship music’ and Dr Tony Campolo, Bill Clinton’s former spiritual adviser’ will lead an evening in support of Compassion at Harrogate’s St Aidan’s Church High School two days earlier, Thursday October 30th.

“It’s a rare treat to get two leaders like this in one place” added Guy. “We are delighted to welcome Graham Kendrick and Tony Campolo and look forward to an evening to remember.”
