North Yorks five year olds \'tie the knot\' at school \'wedding\'

Wedding SwaledaleA ‘wedding’ with a difference has taken place at a North Yorkshire church this month, as five and six year old pupils at St Mary's CofE Primary School, Bolton on Swale near Richmond learned about marriage - by holding their own 'wedding service'.

Two  young primary school pupils, Kenzie  and William , 'tied the knot' in a very realistic mock wedding ceremony at St Mary's Church, Bolton on Swale,  with the bridesmaids, best man and  guests, all fellow pupils at St Mary’s CofE Primary School.

Vicar, the Revd Yvonne Callaghan officiated at the wedding lesson . “It was a joy to “marry” two pupils year 1 and year 2 of St Mary’s CofE School, at St Mary church," she said. "We learnt that coming into church and before God with our friends and a family at times of celebration is a wonderful thing to do."

Wedding reception

Head teacher Mrs Dobson and staff at the school had organised the ‘wedding’  and arranged the wedding party.

The rings were brought forward by Ring Bearer Rudi .  Sadie  was Chief bridesmaid along with another four bridesmaids and pageboys.  There was even a ‘father of the bride, who accompanied the bride into church, played by Archie.

Confetti“The celebration will be remembered for a long time,” said Yvonne, “thanks to our two photographers, who captured the wedding so well, including our many wedding guests dressed in their finery.”

Following the wedding came the reception, held within the church complete with cake and sparkling fruit juice ‘champagne’. “It was a joy to raise a toast to the Bride and Groom,” said Yvonne.
