On Thursday, Leeds Trinity University are holding a ‘Speed Faithing’ session, and in the Merrion Centre, shoppers will get a taste of the music, prayer and beliefs of the different faiths in Leeds.
It’s all part of Inter Faith Week with lots of events taking place in Leeds. At the Merrion Centre on Thursday, the different faiths will be showing how they work together for the good of all through public prayer times, music and exhibitions. School choirs will sing on the hour and half-hour (10am-3pm) and at 11am the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Leeds will meet exhibitors and choirs.
The Revd Charles Dobbin, Chair of Leeds Faiths Forum, says, “The Merrion Centre will be a lovely place to be as many different school choirs will be celebrating the relationships between the faiths in song. Each faith will have a banner and representative who will be able talk to passersby who want to find out more. There’ll also be public prayer times by different faiths with a short act of regular prayer that would normally be offered at that stage of the day.”
Leeds Trinity University in Horsforth is also holding a programme of events through the week. On Thursday lunchtime they’ve got a ‘Speed Faithing’ session, when the representatives of each faith have five minutes to answer questions put to them. Other events include: ‘An Imam and Priest in Conversation’ on Tuesday lunchtime and, on Thursday evening, a lecture by Dr Ed Kessler, Founder and Director of the Woolf Institute in Cambridge entitled “Jews, Christians and Muslims: Minority Transformations and the Crossing of Boundaries” (more details below).
