Sports stars bringing Christian and Muslim young people together

Ikram ButtStars from the sporting world will be helping to develop greater understanding between faiths at a two day sporting event in Bradford later this month. 

Sport England and local faith groups are working together to bring young people aged 14-20 years together to talk about faith issues and enjoy coaching from some of the best sportsman in Yorkshire.

‘Sports Equals’ is a free event taking place at Manningham Sports Centre between10.30am-3.3opm Monday and Tuesday 27th-28th October.

Taking part in the two day event will be Ambreen Siddiqui, the professional boxer, Ikram Butt the Rugby League International, Gul Rashid a local professional rackets coach and fresh for their County Championship success Adil Rashid of Yorkshire County Cricket Club.

Local vicar, the Reverend Alistair Helm , Vicar of Manningham says, “We have some iconic sports personalities joining us. This is a great initiative by Sport England. It will be a time when young people from Bradford can learn about each other, the values they share and also benefit from the coaching of world class sports people.”

This event has come about from Sport England working with the local church and West Gate Mosque.
