St Peter’s Addingham receive dementia award

Dementia Award for Addingham ChurchBuilding on dementia friendly work in the diocese, St Peter’s Church in Addingham has been awarded the ‘Working to Become Dementia Friendly’ Award from the Bradford and District Dementia Action Alliance.

The Award was presented at the quarterly meeting of the Dementia Action Alliance, held  at Culture Fusion in Bradford.  Jacqui Hand, the Disability Representative for St Peter’s, is pictured receiving received the award from Michael White, the Alzheimer’s Society Operations Manager for West Yorkshire. 

The award follows an awareness raising event, held last July and led by Elizabeth Milwain, the Dementia Adviser for the Diocese, followed by the creation of an action plan outlining steps to be taken over the next twelve months to improve the ‘dementia friendliness’ of the church. 

Actions include articles in the church newsletter, signposting people to helpful services via a noticeboard and information pack, and further workshops for 2015.
