Words and poetry: A series of WW1 lectures in Wakefield Cathedral

JUST ADD WORDS

POETRY, song and words will bring the First World War to life in a special commemorative series of events in Wakefield Cathedral to mark its centenary.

A series of three lunchtime lectures will start next Wednesday (22 Oct) with Fr John Gribben from the Community of the Resurrection in Mirfield on WW1 and the Church.

Former Wakefield Education Chief, John McLeod will lecture on WW1 and its legacy on Oct 29 and local historian, Kate Taylor will give an insight into the effects WW1 had on the city and the role Wakefield played when she delivers her lecture on Nov 5.

All the lectures are free and start at 1pm in the Cathedral and this special commemorative series will be completed with a special sung Evensong by the Girls Choir at 6pm on Nov 12 with readings and poetry to mark the First World War.

All the events are free.
