People from different faiths and backgrounds from across the Huddersfield area recently gathered at Huddersfield Parish Church to discuss community and the challenges faced by all.
The event, ‘Sacred Neighbours’, was organised by Huddersfield Community First, who have received funding for a series of events in local faith centres.
People were hosted by the Revd Canon Rachel Firth, Vicar at Huddersfield Parish Church, and were brought together in a positive and respectful atmosphere to listen, learn and connect with one another.
At a time when division and misunderstanding can easily grow, opportunities to meet, talk and build relationships across communities matter more than ever.
People at the event were reminded that despite differences, we can live together peacefully, respectfully and with a shared sense of community.
The afternoon at Huddersfield Parish Church was the second ‘Sacred Neighbours’ event, with the first having been in hosted the local mosque.
There will be further gatherings, at the local Hindu temple and one of the Sikh temples in central Huddersfield.
The hope is that these will be the start of many more conversations and collaborations that continue strengthening bonds across Huddersfield.
