This Volunteers Week we want to say a massive thank you to all church Treasurers in the diocese.
The role of a Treasurer is a very important one, as thousands of pounds flow through the accounts of churches, and PCCs are independent charities, and need to conform to Charity Commission guidance.
Treasurers do not need to be an accountant, with honesty and enthusiasm key values for any potential treasurer.
Janet Edmond, Diocesan Senior Stewardship Officer, said: “We are eternally grateful for the valuable work of our church treasurers.
“Their work often goes on behind the scenes, and largely unseen by most of their congregation, yet it is that work that is often key to holding the missional vision and financial reality of our churches together.
“The role of the treasurer can be a lonely one and so we encourage all our treasurers to try and come along to our online Treasurer Forum meeting to pick up tips from other treasurers on how to tackle aspects of the role, find out about helpful resources and just have a chance to chat with other treasurers!
“The Forum meetings are pretty informal and happen three or four times a year.”
