St Andrew's Keighley is greener and brighter thanks to new LEDs

One of our Bradford area churches is brighter and greener, thanks to new LED lights supported in part by the Diocese of Leeds.

St Andew’s Keighley have recently replaced their old, expensive and unreliable halogen spotlights with some 60 LED spotlights and 2 LED floodlights.

The church is currently in the process of raising funds for a large-scale project of reordering and redevelopment, Project Beacon, and although it will be several years before the project is completed, they wanted to install new lights now that can also be sustainably used in the refurbishment.

After developing their plan, the church applied for a Diocesan Grant and were successful in being awarded monies from the Diocesan Church Buildings, the Buildings for Mission Minor Repairs and Improvements Fund and the Net Zero Carbon Quick Wins Fund, which covered approximately a third of the cost.

Anji Thomson, Churchwarden at St Andrew’s, said: “The Diocesan staff were really helpful in their advice and assistance.

“The remaining cost was covered by our member's giving; we are not a well-off church and so we are humbled and grateful for this.

“We couldn't rely on the VAT for listed buildings and needed to ensure we could cover the whole cost, something I am really glad we did now!”

Following a successful Faculty approval the work was completed in March 2026, with a ‘switch on’ service on Sunday, March 15.

Anji said: “Our electrician, JCH Electrical Service Ltd, has been brilliant, understanding, advising and patient.

“We are delighted with the outcome of the work!”

Our next round of Diocesan Church Buildings grants, including the Diocesan Church Buildings, the Buildings for Mission Minor Repairs and Improvements Fund and the Net Zero Carbon Quick Wins Fund, are open for applications with a deadline of Tuesday, June 30.
