UK Minority Ethnic and Global Majority Heritage vocations event to be held

St Peter’s Huddersfield will host a UK Minority Ethnic and Global Majority Heritage vocations event with our Diocesan Vocations Team looking to place welcome, listening and understanding at the heart of discernment.

The gathering at the church on Saturday, May 30, from 12pm to 4pm, will have a primary focus of creating a hospitable space where people from UKME and GMH communities can explore God’s call to both lay and ordained ministry openly, honestly, and without unnecessary barriers.

The event will reflect a growing recognition that pathways to ministry must be more accessible, culturally aware, and rooted in attentive listening and a deeper awareness of the rich untapped resources rooted in diversity.

Participants will be invited to share their stories, name their hopes, and ask questions about their discipleship and vocational discernment.

The afternoon will include time for sharing food together, and the organisers are grateful to Asda supermarkets for supporting the event with cake.

The event will conclude with a Eucharist led by the Rt Revd Smitha Prasadam, Bishop of Huddersfield.

The Revd Canon Sean Robertshaw, Diocesan Director of Vocations said: “This is the first event of this kind we have hosted with our recently appointed Racial Justice Officer, the Revd Wayne Simmonds, we are very much looking forward to welcoming people from all backgrounds to the event.

“Our hope is to listen well, to extend our collective understanding, and to make a start at getting vocations both lay and ordained to be more accessible for UKME and GMH communities.”

All are welcome who wish to explore what vocation might mean for them and to be part of a conversation shaped by openness, faith, a shared commitment, and prayer.

For more information and to register your interest please contact the Revd Wayne Simmonds or Jenice Guild, Vocations Administrator.
