Ripon Cathedral Beer Festival returns

Ripon Cathedral Beer Festival returns for another year on Bank Holiday Monday, May 2, following a three-year break due to the COVID pandemic.

Visitors to the festival will enjoy live music, award winning beers, refreshing ciders, wine and Pimms plus delicious hot food, all served in the Dean’s Garden, against the backdrop of the beautiful Ripon Cathedral.

New this year will be the Alcohol Free Company of Wetherby, serving a range of tasty alcohol-free beers and drinks.

There will be plenty to keep children entertained throughout the day including a bouncy castle, ice cream van and Brick Box Yorkshire’s ‘play and create sessions’ with their huge quantities of Lego.

Two new bands will feature in this year’s live music line up - Jaspa and Harrogate Ukelele Band.

There’ll be interesting brews from Hambleton Ales, Wold Top Bitter, Rudgate Brewery, Roosters, Yorkshire Heart, Timothy Taylor’s, Theakstons, Pennine Brewery, Richmond Brewery, Harrogate Brewing Company, Boson Brewing Company and Daleside Brewery.

The ever popular ‘Old Sleningford’ locally produced cider will also be on sale, plus Pimms, wine and soft drinks.

Hambleton Ales, Rudgate Brewery and Rick Jones, from Valentinos in Ripon are again supporting this year’s Beer Festival logistics.

Margaret Hammond, manager of the fund-raising team said: “We could not put on this event without the generous support of so many local businesses and volunteers who support the beer festival.

“We are truly grateful to everyone who gives their time and expertise to help give the local community a fun day and at the same time raise funds for the cathedral.”

Many Ripon businesses have sponsored advertising in the programme for this community fundraising event; their support is appreciated and will help to raise funds towards the heritage conservation, education programme and music of Ripon Cathedral.

The Beer Festival is part of a weekend of events and worship as Ripon Cathedral launches its 1350th anniversary celebrations, with lots more to come this summer and autumn.

The Beer Festival will take place on Monday, May 2 in The Dean’s Garden at Ripon Cathedral, the entrance is on the corner of High Saint Agnesgate from 11.30am until 5pm.

Tickets are available online now for £5 adults plus booking fee, £7 on the gate, including a free glass.
