What would happen if you gave God a year?
The Leeds Diocesan Internship scheme is an amazing opportunity to explore more of what it means to be a lifelong disciple of Christ and to serve his church. It is a year where you will be equipped for the kingdom of God in life, work, and leadership.
The scheme runs from September to July and involves practical placements in churches, weekly training, and being part of a Christian community of interns.
Our priority is to help you as an intern to grow in relationship with God. Your internship will involve leadership experience; training in biblical studies, theology and leadership; learning how to develop a rule of life; opportunity to develop transferable work skills; and time to consider God’s calling for the future. Our hope is that, through your time as an intern, you will establish learning, habits and disciplines that enable you to be transformed daily by the power of the Holy Spirit to be more like Christ for the rest of your life.
As an intern you would spend one day a week gathering as a learning community for worship and teaching, and two or three days a week serving in a church (either in a specific ministry area such as youth and children’s work or across a range of different ministries). You would also be expected to seek a part-time job one or two days a week outside of the church to gain work and discipleship experience in the workplace, and to have one day a week as a day off.
There are a number of different streams through which you can take part as an intern, for example through the Ministry Experience Scheme, the Future Youth Scheme or the New Wine Discipleship Year.
Through this internship programme, we want to grow and nurture disciples who make disciples and who will serve the Kingdom of God in all areas of life, from business, politics, media, education and medicine as well as leading churches across the country and beyond.
“I would recommend this to anyone who wants to deepen their understanding of the Bible, the Church and what serving means as a Christian, but also anyone who wants to discover more about themselves, their value and identity in Christ.” Kay, past intern
