Faith leaders from the Bradford area have expressed their solidarity, following the attack in Sydney.
Their message can be read below.
"As faith leaders from across Bradford we express our shock and sadness at the horrific attack targeting the Australian Jewish community as they gathered to celebrate the first night of Chanukah. Our prayers are with those killed, the injured, the bereaved, and with all of those affected including the wider Jewish community here in West Yorkshire and beyond.
"Each time such an atrocity strikes, we renew our commitment to the fundamental right of every person to celebrate festivals and worship freely, safely, and without fear; and to building peace and fostering understanding within our own communities here in Bradford city and district.”
The Rt Revd Dr Toby Howarth, Bishop of Bradford
Hamzah Khan, Bradford Council for Mosques
Dr Kuldip Kaur Bharj, OBE, DL, Bradford Gurdwaras
Ravinder Dharni, Bradford Hindu Council
