Nine new diocesan interns have begun their new year of learning and service.
Interns and their church leaders gathered for training and a chance to connect on Monday, September 16, sharing conversation, learning and a service of Holy Communion.
The Leeds Diocesan Internship scheme is an opportunity for people to explore more of what it means to be a lifelong disciple of Christ and to serve his church.
The scheme runs from September to July and involves practical placements in churches, weekly training, and being part of a Christian community of interns.
Interns are serving in the churches of St Paul’s Ireland Wood, St George’s Leeds, St Luke’s Holbeck, Fountains Church Bradford, All Saints Ilkley, Keighley Parish, St Mark’s Harrogate and St Peter’s Harrogate.
The Revd Simon Walters, Diocesan Intern Lead, said: “We’ve had a great start to the internship with this new group.
“It is so encouraging to see people from different backgrounds and ages taking a step of faith in setting aside a year to serve God in churches across the diocese.
“We can’t wait to see how they grow throughout this year and discover more about what God has called them to for the future.”
The internship involves leadership experience; training in biblical studies, theology and leadership; learning how to develop a rule of life; opportunity to develop transferable work skills; and time to consider God’s calling for the future.
Interns spend one day a week gathering as a learning community for worship and teaching, and two or three days a week serving in a church, either in a specific ministry area such as youth and children’s work or across a range of different ministries.
There are a number of different streams through which people can take part as an intern, including through the Ministry Experience Scheme, the Future Youth Scheme, the New Wine Discipleship Year or our Independent Stream.
