Schools across the diocese are being encouraged to reduce their carbon footprints, with some 40% signed up to the Let’s Go Zero campaign.
Let’s Go Zero is a national campaign for all schools, colleges and nurseries to be net zero carbon by 2030.
It aims to bring support, guidance and opportunities to thousands of schools, representing more than two million young people.
Launched in 2020, Let’s Go Zero is a campaign from Ashden, whose mission is to showcase climate solutions and accelerate systemic change that unleashes their transformative potential.
Ashden has been creating impact for 25 years, including more than 15 years supporting climate action in UK schools.
Schools in our diocese represent the largest proportion of our carbon footprint, and therefore are a large part of our net zero ambitions.
The diocese is working to tailor support to schools, including by signposting to Let’s Go Zero.
In the last year some 95 schools have registered with Let’s Go Zero, who have provided support with workshops to help schools create climate action plans.
The Education Team have also held a School Governor’s briefing on Climate Action, giving governors tools and confidence in this area, and giving them ideas of how they can best support their schools.
