St Paul's Drighlington use crafts to connect with children and families

St Paul’s Drighlington in the Leeds area have been using crafts to connect with children and families in their local area, supported by our Children, Young People and Families Team.

The church have been running daytime craft sessions during recent school holidays, including Christmas Crafts and a Shrove Tuesday session that included pancake decorating and Mardi Gras mask decorating.

These well-attended meetings were developed by the church with support from Jo Young and Aimi King, members of the diocesan Children, Young People and Families Team, to replace a monthly Sunday afternoon Family service which had not been reaching the local community as well as the church wanted.

The Revd Patrick Senior, Priest in Charge of the church, said: “Thank you to everyone who came to our Craft Session and Party, we hope all enjoyed it.

“We heard a story about Shrove Tuesday and the link with pancakes and also the start of Lent.

“Many craft activities were done, including decorating our own pancakes, colouring, making plasticine creations, crosswords, word searches and designing masks for Mardi Gras!

“We finished with soup and some wonderfully decorated pancakes with oodles of squirty cream.”
