Compass

We're pleased to be able to offer Compass to churches in the diocese as a tool that can help to identify what we might do next for our churches to develop. Compass uses a mixture of video and discussion to lead church groups through a process that does four things:

  1.  Have a conversation about what you do in the life of your church, how that is going, and how you see your strengths and weaknesses in that.
  2.  Identify what your next step in mission might be so that you can know confidently that you are putting your energy into the right things. This is noted down in a next steps plan.
  3.  Reflect on the barriers you are finding in taking that next step in mission.
  4.  Locate the support that we in the diocese and out partners elsewhere might be able to offer you, as you overcome those barriers and turn the next steps plan into reality.

The trailer video below is something you can show in your church to help decide if Compass will help you.

What do we need to run Compass?

You will need a group of people who are willing to talk about what goes on in the life of your church.

You will need two to three hours - Compass can be done all at once or in two shorter sessions.

Someone to make the conversation run (a facilitator). Usually this ends up falling to the ordained leader - but they may not be the best person. See our FAQs for more on this.

You will need access to the main video and some copies of the extra resources (email barnabas@leeds.anglican.org to get a pack either by email or in hard copy). You can find out more on the Compass resources page.

You will need access to the internet to look at some of the resources that are offered towards the end of the Compass Process.
