School of Ministry

Leeds School of Ministry is part of YTEP, the Yorkshire Theological Education Partnership and provides theological training for lay ministers across the Diocese of Leeds. Teaching takes place in two area hubs: Bingley and Mirfield. Modules are taught using common awards modules from Durham.  Both hubs follow a common programme on alternate years to better support students who need to suspend studies for a term for pastoral reasons.

Who is the School of Ministry for?

The School of Ministry is open to a wide variety of people. Students studying with Leeds School of Ministry come from many different church traditions, educational backgrounds and with a wide variety of life experiences. This diversity makes for a stimulating learning environment where all, staff and students alike, can learn from each other. The two area hubs provide teaching prominantly for those interested in pursuing some form of Lay Ministry, such as Licensed Lay Ministry/Reader Ministry. Some students also complete our courses as part of their exploration of ordained ministry or for their own educational purposes e.g. Introduction to Theology.

What subjects are taught?

Many different theological subjects are taught as part of the School of Ministry programme. These include Biblical Studies (Old and New Testaments), Foundations for Mission and Ministry in Context (a 12 week placement module undertaken in another church), Christian Doctrine and Ethics, Preaching for the Contemporary World and Spirituality and Discipleship.
