The diocese is looking forward to welcoming the Archbishop of York, the Rt Revd Stephen Cottrell, to Wakefield this week.
Archbishop Stephen is coming for a day of exploration and learning on Thursday, January 25, ending with him leading a ‘Follow Me’ session at Wakefield Cathedral in the evening.
The day will start at the Cathedral with a Bishop’s Breakfast, where Archbishop Stephen will meet with local dignitaries.
Following this, the Archbishop will visit HMP Wakefield, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and HMP New Hall Prison and Young Offender Institution, before ending with the ‘Follow Me’ event back at the Cathedral, where Archbishop Stephen will be the speaker.
The Bishop of Wakefield, the Rt Revd Tony Robinson, said: “’Follow Me’ sessions began in 2014 and since then we have been able to learn about our faith by listening to the wisdom of a variety of speakers.
“This Thursday we are delighted that the Archbishop of York will be our speaker.
“He is well known to many people in the area from his time as Diocesan Missioner in the 1990s.
“He will be speaking on ‘All you ever wanted to know about vocation but were afraid to ask’.”
The Diocese of Leeds will be sharing pictures from his visit on our Facebook and X/Twitter pages.
