Churches given chance to apply for Common Ground Award

Churches have until Friday, November 21 to apply for a government grant to help improve their facilities.

The Common Ground Award, administered by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, offers up to £10,000 towards constructing or renovating church facilities.

Up to £1.7 million capital funding is available across the country within the 2025/2026 financial year, distributed in payments of up to £10,000 per successful applicant.

Applicants will be able to set out how capital investment could be scaled up beyond £10,000, up to a maximum of £50,000, which may be considered in exceptional cases, where there is a clearly demonstrated need, supported by a strong application.

Churches which host social impact projects and bring diverse communities together can apply to this scheme, and whilst this fund is not specifically aimed at net zero interventions, it would be easy to make the case for energy efficiency work and installation of solar PV that would make buildings more comfortable, welcoming and affordable to run.

The deadline for applications is Friday, November 21, with funding awarded in January 2026.
