Faith-based puppet show project delights a former Prime Minister

A children’s holiday club based on creating a performance with puppets in one of our parish churches had a visit from the former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak this summer.

The MP for Richmond and Northallerton enjoyed the show at  Brompton in Swale parish church, which was the result of workshops run by volunteers.

Revd Simon Dowson explained: “The parish of Easby, Skeeby, Brompton on Swale and Bolton on in the Richmond Deanery, has been engaging with children from the parish during school holidays by offering what might be described as a mini-holiday club based on putting on a puppet performance.

“This summer the performance was to a song called ‘Don’t’ stop praising’ and we were delighted to welcome our MP, Rishi Sunak, to watch the children and hand out certificates to them. He loved the show!” Said Revd Simon.

He said how  the workshops were great opportunities to connect with young people, break a few stereotypes about church and share faith with them.

“The songs the puppets perform to are always well-known tunes professionally re-recorded with new words with a faith-based message.

The children have a great time and most come back every summer – this time to our newly refurbished hall known as St Paul’s Hub to learn the latest routine, followed by a performance in front of family, church and community members and it is always well received,” said Revd Simon.
