The Keighley Film and Arts Festival was launched recently, with a packed gathering at Keighley Shared Church, for a showing of the Louisa Rose Mackleston film ‘Ruth and Safiya.’
Raising the important subject of asylum, the film tells of an unlikely friendship that develops.
The event was titled 'Journeys to Keighley' and celebrated the stories and journeys that brought us to Keighley.
From Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe and from across the UK the stories were told of our journey and arrival in Keighley.
Members of the Ukrainian community were in attendance, sharing moving stories of their recent arrival in Yorkshire and the welcome they have received. 
Rector of Keighley, the Revd Canon Mike Cansdale, said: “It was great to host this event and to gather people together - people of different faiths, nationalities, ages and backgrounds but all sharing a love of this place that we call home.”
There were more than a hundred guests who enjoyed a delicious curry, good conversation and moving stories, both in person and through the film.
Chair of Trustees Susan Mendoza said: “Hoping this is the first of many events where we can bring different communities together and celebrate the amazing creativity that Keighley has to offer.”
