A Denby Dale church is being transformed into a community workshop and café, following transfer of ownership to a charity which specialises in woodwork, wood-turning and light engineering.
Holy Trinity Church is now known as Trinity Workshops and owned by Denby Dale and District Men’s Shed Association, a charity that includes men’s and women’s sheds set up where people can use their practical skills for the good of the community and as a place to socialise.
Robert Barber, chair of Trinity Workshops said: “Our thanks go to the Diocese of Leeds and to Denby Dale Parish Council for supporting us, and to everyone who has helped us to get this far.
“The church is now saved as a community asset which will support our makers and creatives and the community more generally. Over the last 8 years we have completed more than 40 community projects, working with local schools and other community groups.”
Lisa McIntyre, Team Leader for Church Buildings added: “There are many considerations when a church has to close and the process is handled with great care. This is a really positive outcome, as the building will continue to benefit the community in both social and practical ways.”
