Retreats and resources for Lent shared

The Diocese of Leeds and the Church of England have events, retreats and resources to help churches and individuals draw near to God and one another this Lent.

This Lent our area bishops will be hosting Lent retreats or quiet days in different venues throughout the diocese.

The retreats will offer space for prayer, silence, Bible study, reflection and meaningful conversations.

Everyone is warmly invited to attend one of these days, with all welcome at each day, regardless of which episcopal area people are in.

The Rt Revd Toby Howarth, acting Bishop of Leeds, said: “As bishops in the Diocese of Leeds we are looking forward to sharing these retreats with you.

“They are a valuable opportunity to seek to deepen our connection with Jesus and one another.”

There will also be a diocesan online meditation led by the Revd Henriette Howarth on Thursday, March 19, from 8pm - 9pm.

This will be an opportunity to meet with others online and to take time to reflect, pray and practice silent prayer and meditation.

Participants will be invited to use Scripture, poetry, music and silence as ways to connect with God this evening.

The Church of England is offering various resources this year under the title Draw Near: Life Giving Habits for Lent.

This year’s resources have at their heart ideas for habits and patterns which help us grow as disciples of Christ day by day, especially as we prepare to celebrate the great mystery of God’s saving love at Easter.

During Lent, reflections are centred around a summary of the Christian Way from Common Worship, which identifies six activities essential to our calling as disciples.

Each week a different contributor explores a different aspect of Christian discipleship – worshipping together, praying, exploring the Bible, sharing communion, offering service and sharing the good news with others.

A parallel 40-day challenge for families and children will also be available - exploring the life-giving habit of generosity in partnership with 40acts.

Booklets for adults and for children & families can be ordered from Church House Publishing.

These booklets contain reflections and challenges to help people grow in their spiritual journey during Lent.

Parcevall Hall are also running lent retreats, and more about these can be found here.
