St Oswald’s Guisley are celebrating achieving their Eco Church Silver Award.
The church has a Green Team that meet every two months, as well as running a churchyard tidy every month, where they have a chance to chat in the open air and plan for their green successes.
In January the group established a wildlife corridor between the church and their neighbours, allowing local wildlife to move around the area more easily.
One of the church’s biggest steps forward during 2024 was work being done on all the electrics and lighting both inside and outside of the Church, updating them to modern standards with LED bulbs.
Judith Bustard, PCC member, said: “We are very proud of both our Bronze and Silver awards, but especially the Silver as this has involved so much work being done on the interior and exterior of the Church, bringing us much more up to date and being eco-friendly.
“We will shortly be working more with the congregation regarding eco-friendly cleaning products, carbon footprint awareness and conducting an anonymous survey of environmental and other charities supported by our members.”
A Rocha UK, who run the Eco Church Awards, aims to equip churches and individuals to create a movement to help restore biodiversity at a local level.
Now in its ninth year, the Eco Church award scheme brings together a national community of churches addressing the environmental crisis, using a common framework and an online toolkit to learn and speak up together.
