St Oswald’s Methley in the Leeds area is celebrating its Eco Church Gold Award, achieved in November 2025, completing a committed journey from Bronze in 2021 and Silver in 2022.
This award reflects significant environmental action across church life.
Jackie Davis, Eco Church Lead at the church, said: “It has been a five-year journey to Gold, and it is lovely to celebrate the award.
“We know we are stewards of the earth and caring for creation honours God.
“We are also keen to support other churches on their Eco Journey, and we are grateful for those churches who have supported us.”
Recent achievements include installing under-pew heating to cut carbon emissions, adding solar panels to the church hall through support from a diocesan Net Zero Carbon Quick Wins grant, and ongoing work in the churchyard to support biodiversity, creating space for nature to flourish.
These practical steps build on the church’s wider commitment to creation care in worship, teaching and community engagement.
