Unrolling the Scroll: how church ministers to post-industrial Yorkshire

First published on: 9th February 2022

Mission and ministry across post-industrial Yorkshire is the focus of an up and coming event for church leaders.

Taking place on Thursday, April 7 at Wakefield Cathedral, the day will include input from a number of speakers, including the Revd Jude Smith, the Revd Canon Peter Farley-Moore and the Bishop of Wakefield, the Rt Revd Tony Robinson.

“All across our diocese, from Batley to Todmorden, from Keighley to Catterick there are a number of communities that we minister in and that we seek to share good news in that we might call post-industrial,” said the Revd Jude Smith, Director of Church Revitalisation in the Diocese of Leeds.

“Essentially the reason that they sprang into life no longer exists or has been radically changed. That presents to us some really unique opportunities and some interesting challenges.”

“In the Diocese of Leeds we’re really keen that we don’t miss these communities as we emerge from covid and as we hear rumours of levelling up. Myself and our colleagues at Wakefield Cathedral would love you to join us.

“We’re calling the day ‘Unrolling the Scroll’ and we’re really keen that it’s a time when we can shape the conversation together.

“We want to start from where we are, we want to own the reality of mission and ministry in our contexts. But we also want to start to think about how we might move forward. What do we bring to post or between industrial communities and how can our structures serve us in that?
