Royal School of Church Music bronze, silver, and gold awards were recently presented to 10 choristers at Wakefield Cathedral.
The awards were presented at a service of choral evensong on Sunday, September 22, by the Very Revd Simon Cowling, Dean of Wakefield, and the Rt Revd Smitha Prasadam, Bishop of Huddersfield.
Speaking after the service Canon Kathryn Goldsmith, the cathedral Precentor, said: "We are extremely proud of our choristers, and these awards and the preceding examinations demonstrate their hard work, commitment, and excellence in singing.
“We are thrilled to have such talented youngsters in the cathedral choir: many congratulations to them all!"
Dean Simon added: "Wakefield Cathedral has an unwavering commitment to maintaining and developing the English choral tradition and I congratulate our music department for all they do."
The Dean also made a presentation to Mr Neil Hopwood, who has been a member of the cathedral choir for fifty years, commenting: “We are delighted to celebrate Neil’s half century of service to Wakefield Cathedral and wish him many more years of singing as a lay clerk on our loyal back row!”
