Bishop Paul has officially opened St Oswald’s Primary school in Guiseley. Because of the addition of a brand new wing, what was St Oswald’s Junior School teaching children from the age of 7 to 11, now offers a full range of primary school education from Reception right through to Year 6.
Bishop Paul prayed for God’s blessing on the building, the teachers and the pupils and he cut a ceremonial ribbon to declare the Primary School officially open.
Addressing an invited audience, Rupert Madeley, the school’s Head Teacher, says "I'm very aware of the deep and historic connections between the school, which was founded in 1592, and the community in Guiseley. So many people I talk to around Guiseley tell me they came to the school, or sent their children here and still feel a real affection for us”.
He thanked all those who have contributed to the new building: Leeds City Council for its funding, the Diocese of West Yorkshire & the Dales, the architects at NPS, and the strategic and site teams who worked on the project over the school holidays in the summer. Former Head Teacher, Fiona Woodhall, was also thanked at the ceremony for having set the project in motion.
