‘Doing Christmas Digitally’ is the name of an up and coming webinar hosted by the Diocese of Leeds.
Those involved in the digital side of church, whether that be social media, updating a website, producing videos or A Church Near You, are invited to come along and explore how online platforms can be used to share the Christian message this Christmas.
Research conducted by the Church of England at the beginning of 2021, has highlighted some of the missional opportunities and challenges that have arisen as a result of the Covid-19 Pandemic. From the thousands of people surveyed, 4% who previously had never attended church indicated that they have begun to attend online church regularly.
Although the research showed that a percentage who had attended church prior to covid-19 did not engage with online worship, it is clear over the past eighteen months that the church has been able to reach and interact with a new audience.
Commenting on the findings, Richard Earnshaw, Digital and Social Media Officer for the Diocese of Leeds, said, “We’ve all made so many new friends through online worship - the question now is, how do we build on those relationships as we open our church doors?
“This great bit of research from the Church of England highlights how important physically gathering still is, but it also shows the importance of continuing online worship, both for inclusivity and reaching new people.
“We’re really looking forward to hosting this webinar, exploring how we can have a good digital Christmas through a mixture of discussion and input.”
The ‘Doing Christmas Digitally’ webinar will take place on Thursday, November 18 from 7pm to 9pm. It will be hosted by the Diocese of Leeds Communications Team.
