Many people and churches throughout Yorkshire enjoyed a really fun weekend supporting Le Tour.
St Philip’s in Birchencliffe, Huddersfield had a wonderful time. The route went between their Church and Community Centre.
Both sides of the road were heaving with people. The Swing band in the church yard were brilliant and people were dancing in the Halifax Road, before the bikes came! Listen to the Band.
The atmosphere on top of Holme Moss was electric with over 60,000 people lining verges along the king of the mountain route. Team Rector Revd Sean Robertshaw rode up to the summit of Holme Moss to soak up the atmosphere after holding a service in church earlier that morning.
He said, “From ten in the morning when we left from New Mill until about three in the afternoon people just kept arriving, it felt to be something like a biblical Exodus only bigger, people arriving on bikes, and on foot from every direction imaginable. Everyone was enjoying a fun day out supporting the cyclists.”
The team churches in the Holme Valley also contributed to a giant community tee-shirt in preparation for the event, hoping it would be seen from the air by the helicopter as the riders passed through the Holme Valley.
