Keighley Shared Church has been transformed into a vaccination clinic as part of the drive to take the Covid vaccine to the community and to connect with so-called "hard to reach" people.
The Modality Group that operates a number of doctor’s surgeries in the town provided the vaccinating team and the town centre church saw a steady flow of people throughout the day.
Team Rector, Revd Canon Mike Cansdale hailed it a great success and a positive partnership. “We’ve such a great location and flexible space that it was easy to say ‘yes’ straight away when Modality approached us for help.”
Bill Graham, Business Manager for the practise is delighted with the success of their community outreach approach and said: "Up-take of the vaccine in Keighley is at 85 per cent of the adult population, which compares very favourably with areas of a similar demographic. We’ve loved being in the church today and look forward to working with the parish in the future.”
Throughout the pandemic Keighley Parish has been a key partner in the community hub operation, delivering food parcels and supporting the vulnerable and isolated. “We are a people of hope” said Revd Mike “and this is for us the good news of Jesus in action.”
