Children at one of our schools in the Ripon area have had a new tree planted as part of a royal initiative, with the blessing of a bishop.
The Rt Revd Dr Helen-Ann Hartley, Bishop of Ripon, was helped in planting a tree sapling given to her at a recent meeting of the College of Bishops by children from Sharow C of E Primary school, as well as the Revd Ruth Newton, and Jacqui Palmer, Headteacher at the school.
The sapling was provided as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative, which invites people to plant trees for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
The sapling has also been planted as part of the lead up to the COP26 summit in November.
Bishop Helen-Ann said: “I spoke with the children about why I was planting the tree with them, and why trees are important and why we need to care for our environment.
“Once the tree was planted, I said a prayer and blessing.
“I then had a quick tour of the school and said hello to pupils and staff.”
