Children from St John’s Church Primary in Brighouse planted and prayed together as they sowed their poppy seeds to mark the centenary of the First World War and our new identity together as a new diocese.
Their curate, Fr Andrew Hall visited the school on Towngate and led worship for the whole school about growing and seeds before two of the classes went out to plant the poppies.
The children talked about the seeds and how they grow, the wonders of creation and their need for sun and rain – and got the only rain of the day while they were praying together.
Principal, Helen Lever said: “We had a lovely poppy planting service today. We talked about the First World War and the sacrifices by the soldiers and the families they left behind. We also celebrated the fact that all the church schools in the new diocese would be doing the same, so we were all linked.”
