Could you share your home with someone who has fled in desperation from their homeland?
Some of the refused asylum seekers BEACON’s (Bradford Ecumenical Asylum Concern) Hosting Project has helped since it launched in 2008 have had remarkable achievements, eg, becoming a university research assistant, qualifying as a barrister, running a barbershop, team managing in a cleaning company, and a man who's been reunited with his wife and seven year old son (last seen when 3 months old).
Yet, without the support of our hosts and local agencies, all these might still be destitute - or worse.
BUT we are still desperately short of local households willing to share their homes with those who have fled in desperation to the UK from their troubled homelands: countries such as Syria, Iran, Eritrea, DR Congo. Those who have opened their homes invariably speak of the many ways they have been personally blessed through doing so.
Could you, or someone you know, open your home - and your heart - to a destitute refused asylum seeker?
