The Father’s Day service at Saint Paul’s Church Manningham finished off with members of the congregation being handed a referees kit as a gift. Each pack contained a yellow and red card together with a whistle.
Vicar, Revd Alistair Helm, said that the World Cup, Father’s Day and a church study course had given him the idea. “Many of us will be watching hours of football over the next few weeks”, he explained, “and we will often not agree with the referee’s decision. So it’s simple, while you’re watching get your own whistle and cards out and make your own decision, the right one of course!.
He added that the serious point was to help people look at things from a different perspective. “It’s been good fun putting the kits together. I just hope they get some use and remind people that you can see things differently!”
