World Cup fever has ignited passions with a new fantasy football league being played in churches in the Huddersfield Episcopal Area.
Across the Benefice of Hartshead, Hightown, Roberttown and Scholes, the congregations are watching the World Cup with extra interest. For the vicar, the Revd Richard Burge has organised a fantasy football competition across his four churches.
Said Richard: “People selected eight teams each – two out of four lists, to make sure people had some favourites to choose from – as well as those not expected to do so well.
“And over the course of the tournament they will get points for the goals their teams score as well as how well they do in the competition.”
Across the four churches and the Church of England School in Roberttown, there are over a hundred people involved in the football fantasy fun. And after the first round of games, one of the Readers and the new curate are top of the league table – but it’s not over yet!
“Our fantasy competitions have become a fun part of church life and it’s a great way to involve people of all ages and to bring the churches together, ‘ said Richard.
