Organisers have announced the planned return cricket match between imams and clergy across the Pennines on Saturday (16) has been POSTPONED due to bad weather.
Building bridges between communities is an important part of mission and ministry across our diocese and this event – organised by Dewsbury based community youth group, Kumon Y’All – would have been the return match after last year’s victory for the Yorkshire team held at Mirfield Community of the Resurrection.
‘Love of the Roses’, sees two teams – made up of a mixture of imams and vicars – face off in a Twenty20 match, representing both Lancashire and Yorkshire.
Farook Yunus, project manager at Kumon Y’all, said the event would build on last year's success and, will show: “It's not about the winning, it's about making friends: showing the world that we can do it; it’s so important."
We had four clergy signed up to join the imams for the Yorkshire side – and they could do with a fifth member of the team.
Those signed up included the Revd Martin Naylor and the Revd Mark Umpleby, both in the United Batley Benefice; the Revd; Brunel James, vicar of Cleckheaton and the Revd Heston Groenewald, vicar of All Hallows, Leeds. Anyone interested in joining them should contact Mark on markumpleby@hotmail.com
