Christ Church, New Mill in the Upper Holme Valley saw very special visitors this week which marks Reserves Day on June 21.
Soldiers Andy Reid and Glen Tarten with their support team came to the church in the Huddersfield Area fundraising for the Army Benevolent Fund.
They are undertaking The Warrior Challenge over 14 days. They will visit the grave of each soldier who lost his life on the 6th March 2012 to lay a wreath. They are cycling 400 miles, then climbing 17,500 feet of mountainside, and finishing with a kayak journey of 125 miles into Westminster.

The Warrior Challenge honours the memory of all six men who lost their lives while serving in the Kandahar province, Afghanistan in 2012. All six men died when their Warrior armoured vehicle was caught in an explosion. Five of the men were from Andy’s regiment, 3rd Battalion ‘The Yorkshire Regiment’ with the final soldier being from 1st Battalion ‘The Duke of Lancaster’s.’
