Local theologians and artists can soon apply to Leeds Church Institute for two bursaries of £5,000 each.
The pair of bursaries are for a collaborative pairing of a theologian and a visual artist and will run for six months.
The goal is to enable dialogue, creation and reflection leading to a presentation of visual arts and written theology based in Leeds and that can be shared widely.
Canon Sam Corley, Rector of Leeds and President of Leeds Church Institute said: “This is a unique opportunity for two individuals, and will also enrich our shared church life.
“I am looking forward to seeing what is created and written for Leeds.”
The theme of the bursary is faith, spirituality and city life in Leeds. A more specific focus, such as responding to climate change or enhancing inclusion, can be agreed as part of the planning process.
The 2020 Bursary Scheme will be launched at the Claire Chapel, Emmanuel Centre at the University of Leeds on Tuesday, October 22 at 6.30pm
There will be an art installation to view, and a presentation on art and faith communities.
Submissions of interest are to be submitted to the institute after this event.
Interest is welcome from artists and theologians with an established practice, at any stage of their career and who are in sympathy with the aims and ethos of Leeds Church Institute.
