A grilled bishop and a pint

With only a pint for protection, the Rt Revd Chris Edmondson will be inviting people in a pub to ask him all those questions about faith they were afraid to ask.

Bishop Chris, who is an honorary assistant bishop in the Diocese of Leeds, is taking part in a Beer and Bishop event at the New Inn in Gildersome on Tuesday (8pm).

Canon Felicity Lawson, vicar of St Peter’s Gildersome & St Paul’s Drighlington says, “Chris is leading our Holy Week and we are inviting people to come along and 'grill' him with those awkward questions about faith we have never dared to ask.

"The church is putting on some refreshments and offering the first drink for free.

“Then on Maundy Thursday afternoon he is doing 'Pray one for me' outside the Co-ops in both villages – where he’ll ask passers by if there is anything they would like prayer for.

“We do quite a lot of community events but we’ve never done anything like this in Holy Week before, so it feels like a significant act of faith!”

Chris Edmondson was formerly Vicar of St Peter's Shipley before becoming Bishop of Bolton. He retired to Bradford earlier this year. More here.
