A Leeds church was transformed In August when almost 200 singers from West Yorkshire and beyond gathered to record an unofficial Olympic anthem for Team Refugees.
Written by singer/songwriter, Becky Owen with the help of Boff Whalley formerly from Chumbawumba, the charity record got its world premiere on Radio Leeds.
It was promoted on social media by PAFRAS (Positive Action for Refugees & Asylum Seekers) which works in Leeds. The charity hosted the evening, and will receive all the proceeds of the song sales.
Revd Heston Groenewald, Vicar of All Hallows (which does a lot of work with aslyum seekers and refugees), said "It was a lovely surprise to have the pop up choir in church – and they sounded wonderful!"
The World is our Song has been released via Bandcap as a pay-what-you-feel single. It can be downloaded HERE and all profits will go to PAFRAS.
Becky Owen was inspired by the fact that at this year's Olympic Games the first fully affiliated 'Team Refugees' are competing. She wanted to mark this historic occasion by writing the ten strong team their own Olympic anthem.
